The Metamorphosis, a Study: Nabokov on Kafka (1989)

Nabokove erzählt die Verwandlung nach, besonders das Ende. Das ganze ist fürs Fernsehn produziert und schon allein die Aufmachung ist sehr interessant.

Slavoj Zizek - The Reality of the Virtual

Eigentlich hat Sabrina den Link mir nur per Mail geschickt, aber auf den ersten Blick scheint das doch mal wieder "a link worth posting" zu sein.

Hedgehog in the Fog

Und noch etwas Weihnachtliches von mir. Ich weis nicht ob ich überhaupt schon mal einen so schönen Animationsfilm gesehen habe.

La jetée - The Jetty (1962) - Chris Marker

Udo sent a list of movies for the Sixties seminar and amid the common suspects this movie was listed. While I usually link the trailer in our Sixties Site, in this case the whole movie can be watched. The link brings you to part 1 of the original version (French) with English subtitles. Part 2 is then listed within the YouTube reference list.
Maybe I have to revise my conception of a short - Wikipedia writes:
Constructed almost entirely from still photos, it tells the story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time travel. The film runs for 28 minutes and is in black and white. It won the Prix Jean Vigo for short film.
The 1995 science fiction film 12 Monkeys was inspired by, and takes several concepts directly from, La jetée.

Genialer Kurzfilm von Wes Anderson (Prolog zu Darjeeling Limited)

The short-fiction genre is a hard one to master. In our "courses" on short-films at the HFF, we watched a lot of attempts bei film students - even the one who went on to be very sucessful directors. But few were able to convince us of its qualities - except for this one.
Wes Anderson has a great way of introducing his characters in non-verbal ways. Plus it's a great take on J.J. Abrams "mystery box" (see TED-Links).

"At the Suicide of the Last Jew in the World in the Last Cinema in the World" David Cronenberg

Last night waiting for Renate to finish her class preparation I opened 'Goodbye Cinema Hello Cinephilia' from Jonathan Rosenbaum, my favorite filmcritic. In the introduction Rosenbaum tells about a strange paradox: "that half (...) think that we're currently approaching the end of cinema as an art form and the end of film criticism as a serious activity, while the other half believe that we're enjoying some form of exciting resurgence and renaissance in both areas."
He illustrates both positions by the example of Cronenberg's short made for the 60th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival anthology film . So I stopped reading and started googling and you can watch it like me with 'film buff's delight'.
